Both ISM implementation processes consist of two phases:
- Phase I, the installation phase (preparation and furnishing)
- Phase II, the implementation phase (focus on employee guidance)

The difference between the two implementations lies mainly in the scope for individual choices and decisions and the amount of consultation, coordination and guidance required for this.
1. Basic ISM implementation method
The basic ISM implementation means that we implement ISM with a lot of room for your own choices and priorities. We help you to make the right choices from the standard designs, set priorities and set up your own procedures and work instructions. This is the most chosen implementation of ISM.

This phase involves installing products, creating documentation and making agreements, after which you can start working with ISM. This includes:

Phase II, the implementation phase

2. Default ISM implementation
For IT organizations that opt for a default implementation of ISM, a simpler version of the ISM implementation may suffice. In that case, the choices that are most commonly used in practice and have proven to be successful are implemented. For that reason, less consultation and guidance is required for a default implementation. The investment, lead time and costs are therefore lower.
Phase I, the installation phase, in this case includes: guidance in the minimum required additional decision-making, implementing the decisions and drawing up a limited number of procedures and work instructions.
Phase II, the implementation phase, includes: limited guidance of process managers, management and employees, the organization and the realization of the desired cultural change.
